Here are some of the items catching Bobo’s eye on the Internets:
- Are you one of those totally normal adult men turned on by grunting and shrieking female tennis players? Then you will like this video collection.
- This development won’t make life any easier for Chargers star Shawne Merriman.
- We’d love to see these T-shirts in a NFL merchandise shop.
- Speaking of the NFL, if attendance keeps dropping, the league might want to consider these marketing ideas.
- This cat is probably never going to get a gig with the NFL Network.
- This guys might never heckle the President withing the Congressional chambers, but they would definitely berate a sports star for no good reason.
- Say, this guy looks familiar . . .
Why USC Gets Good Players

Two words for you: Song Girls!
Bobo loves this time of year. College football is back, in all of its male-demographic-pleasing glory.
Why Does Such A Nice Girl Fight?
Posted by Bobo in Cheesecake on August 16th, 2009
This is Gina Carano, a MMA star who became a media sensation for obvious reasons. She can is OK on the eyes, when she is not trying to put her foot through your skull.
Unfortunately, she finally had to take on the woman they call “Cyborg” — a woman who is all muscle and tattoo. What could possible go wrong?
Bobo is not surprised it turned out this way. At least Carano has modeling to fall back on. “Cyborg ” will need to make her money in the ring.

The Sacramento Kings are terrible. That doesn’t mean their dancers have to stink.

It’s All Fun And (All-Star) Games
Posted by Vernetti in Cheesecake, General tomfoolery on July 14th, 2009
Well one half of the All-Star activities is over – the Home Run Derby is in the books. While Albert or St. Louis’ own Ryan Howard didn’t win, it was a great night at Busch Stadium for sure. Here are some quick ones from the day….
I am actually glad Albert didn’t go a little deeper into the Derby. He put on a nice show, he had some pressure packed bombs, and brought everyone to their feet. It is fine he didn’t win. He didn’t pull an Inge and go O-fer, and he didn’t get hurt, so I am fine with how he performed.
Ryan Howard also did well in front of a lot of family and friends. He told me he was a bit nervous but listed the moment as one of his favorite in his MLB career. He was also being pitched to by his SLABA coach from the Ellisville Redbirds – which was a really cool moment.
The Derby actually gets a bit boring after a while. It really hit a lull, as they all do right in the middle. They have to find a way to tighten that up.
How hard was the guy pitching to Joe Mauer throwing? What was he trying to prove?
Had a great conversation with Milt Thompson, the former Cardinal and current Phillies hitting coach. He had some great things to say about Howard’s work ethic and dedication. Thompson still looks like he can hit as well.
Bobby Bonilla looks like he has been hitting the buffet.
ESPN’s Erin Andrews, and her skin tight pants, were the talk of the media day.
Attending Ryan Howard’s party was wonderful after the Derby. Some of the attendees, who were of course in their own little world – Derek Jeter, Alyssa Milano, Josh Beckett, Chase Utley, Ryan Zimmerman, Freddy Sanchez – just to name a few. I really don’t fit in well at those things.
Did I mention Alyssa Milano?

Here are some of the items catching Bobo’s eye on the Internets:
- It’s cruel, really, how many young athletes break the hearts of Chicago sports fans.
- What is sounds like when a satellite sports talk radio host loses his mind.
- It’s not easy being married to a MMA star. These guys are nuts.
- Of course, it cuts both ways. Female MMA stars can become a handful as well. Although, in some cases, these ladies are quite photogenic.
- Mark McGwire won’t come clean, but this guy did. Good for him.
- Bobo is sorry he couldn’t make it over to the Redneck Olympics this year.
- It’s important to know the origin of our sports. Not pretty, is it?
- We’re classify this death as suspicious. Odd, isn’t it, how often this happens in the boxing business.
- We’re happy to report that USC football players can party hard on both coasts. Good for them.
Kournikova + Tattoo + Airbrushing = Controversy
Posted by Bobo in Cheesecake on July 10th, 2009
Why did Sports Illustrated airbrush away Anna Kournikova’s tattoo back in 2004?
From the archives of You Tube, here is the video of the swimsuit shoot:
You may recall that SI later pulled the same stunt with Danica Patrick. Doesn’ SI know that modern men are OK with gaudy body art?
Thank goodness the fellas at Sports By Brooks are on guard, alerting American consumers to this outrage.
Ian Snell Is NOT Braveheart
Posted by Vernetti in Cheesecake, Disturbing news, Not sports on June 27th, 2009
There have been thousands of people, maybe even millions, who would have killed for just one chance in the major leagues. Take a look at every minor league team in the country – almost to a man there is not a person in those club houses who would not kill for a shot to make it to the show.
Then there was Ian Snell. Cardinals fans will remember the Pirates pitcher, who is routinely crushed by Albert Pujols, as the man who took the spot of Joel Pinero on the WBC roster.
Snell is doing terrible this year – he is 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA and a god-awful WHIP of 1.624.
What does he try to do to overcome this? Side pitching sessions? No. Seek help of outside sources? No. Call a Hall of Famer to get tips? No way.
Snell has ASKED TO BE SENT DOWN TO AAA!!!
Here is what the wuss Snell told Dejan Kovacevic of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
“I don’t want to point fingers and make excuses. I just made a better decision for myself, my career and my life.” I asked what he needs to do: “Nothing. You guys don’t understand it unless you played baseball. You don’t understand it, and the people at home don’t understand it. I’m just going down there, get my thoughts together and do well.”
Can you believe this? People would kill for the shot and this guy is saying it is not a “positive environment?” Are you kidding me!!
Here is a way to make it a positive environment. Throw strikes, keep it in the park, and GET PEOPLE OUT!!
I would bet that Joel Pinero is smiling as we speak.
Why College Is Fun, Reason 1,679
Posted by Vernetti in Cheesecake on June 16th, 2009
Having traveled the country, I have had the chance to go to a lot of college campuses, one of those is UCLA. It is a really neat campus, in a great section of L.A. with all the glitz, money, and scenery to boot.
Another thing that it has are some unique characters. Girls wear those big furry boots in the summer, guys ride on big Pee-Wee Herman style bikes with popped collars and hair.
But one tradition that they do have is the “Undie Run.” Where was this when I went to Southeast Missouri? Take a look:
